Why it's So Important to Protect Your Car's Paint, Particularly in the Wintertime

(ARA) - Admit it. During the winter, you're embarrassed to claim the grimy, salt-streaked car in the parking lot as your own. Yes, you know it needs to be washed, but it's really not worth it to you because you know as soon as you get back on the road, it'll get dirty again.
That's not a good attitude to take, and here's why. If you allow road salt and grime to stay on your car for an extended amount of time, chemical reactions that could ruin your finish will occur. Washing your car every day is probably not a practical option. Neither is waxing it every week, but there is something proactive you can do to protect your paint.
Put on a coat of 5 Star Shine. The patented two-step polish uses PTFE (the same substance that makes nonstick cookware so slippery) that actually bonds to the molecules of your paint for unbeatable shine and protection. Log on to www.5starshine.com for an in-depth explanation of how the polish works.
"It's very versatile," says Glenn Canady, president of 5 Star Technologies, Inc. "It will protect your paint from not only snow, sleet and ice, but also from industrial fallout, acid rain, insects, brake dust, bird droppings and water mineral deposits."
In addition, it can prevent rock salt-inflicted rust that can impair both the look and future resale or trade-in value of your vehicle. It only takes an hour to apply a coat on the average vehicle, and Canady points out that it's safe on all paints, clear coats and fiberglass gel coats.
Your car's paint job isn't the only thing that needs protecting in the wintertime. The Car Care Council also recommends that in the wintertime, both tire tread and tire pressure be checked weekly. If snow and ice are a problem in your area, you may want to consider special tires designed to grip slick roads. Lights should be inspected regularly too. Check to see that bulbs are illuminated, and headlights are properly aimed. Finally, replace wiper blades every six months. Consider special snow blades if the weather dictates.
